“Life begins where your comfort zone ends.”
- Neale Donald Walsch
WHO IS THE PROCESS FOR?
The Process is for any dancers who want to get better at 1) being confident in their honest self wherever they go—in front of cameras, auditions, classes, rehearsals, etc., 2) taking risks in pursuit of happiness in life, and 3) being artists with a voice—not dancers who just follow instructions.
What is the process?
The Process is a studio photography session designed for dancers and movers. It’s not your typical photo shoot—it’s more of an experience that requires a little bit of digging deeper and getting personal in your art. You will go through a series of exercises that help you to 1) push yourself out of your comfort zone, 2) express yourself through dance, and 3) practice vulnerability and risk-taking.
WHY THE PROCESS?
I’ve been trying to capture dance as a form of human expression rather than as a pursuit of mechanical perfection. I think the secret to expressing yourself through dance is honesty. In order to be able to communicate ideas, stories, and emotions through movement, we must be honest with ourselves first and then with others. Being honest with ourselves and with others is a very vulnerable thing to do, but it’s the work we must do as artists. I want to help dancers practice vulnerability and honesty by providing a safe space where they can fail, succeed, and create without judgement.
WHAT DOES IT INCLUDE? HOW MUCH IS IT?
The Process takes places in my studio in Astoria, and it takes about 2.5 - 3 hours to complete. We will do both movement shots and portraits. There’s no limit to how many looks you can bring—the more options we have the better. I encourage people to do their own makeup and hair, as it is important for you to feel like yourself during the session. About a week after your session, you will receive a gallery that includes 200-400 watermarked proofs—you get to pick your top 15 photos. I will edit them and send them back to you. You can purchase additional images if you’d like. The total for The Process is $599 + sales tax, with $200 required as a non-refundable deposit at booking.
